Tashkent is much more spread out than cities like Samarkand or Bukhara, but getting around is incredibly easy thanks to cheap taxis and an excellent metro system. For most travellers, I don’t think the exact neighbourhood matters as much as choosing a hotel that’s close to the type of trip you want.
If you’re only visiting for a couple of days, staying closer to the city centre makes sightseeing easier. If you’re spending longer in Tashkent, I’d actually recommend staying in a slightly quieter residential area instead.

🏡 Taras Shevchenko Street (My Favourite Area)
If I came back to Tashkent, this is where I’d stay again.
It feels more residential than the city centre, with plenty of cafes, restaurants and supermarkets nearby, while still only being a short taxi ride from Amir Timur Square and Chorsu Bazaar. It’s also conveniently located if you’re arriving or departing by train.

💰 Shakhrisabz Street (Best Value)
If you’re looking for somewhere central without paying city-centre prices, I’d recommend staying around Shakhrisabz Street.
This is where I stayed at Alpha Plaza, and I found it really convenient for exploring Tashkent. Restaurants, metro stations and taxis were all close by, making it an easy base for a few days.

✨ Around Amir Timur Square (Best for Short Stays)
If you’re only visiting Tashkent for a night or two, staying around Amir Timur Square puts you closest to many of the city’s main attractions, museums and parks.
Hotels here tend to be a little more expensive, but you’ll spend less time travelling between sights, making it ideal if you’re trying to see as much as possible in a short visit.

Final Thoughts
Unlike many cities, I don’t think choosing the exact neighbourhood is something you need to overthink in Tashkent. The metro is easy to use, taxis are incredibly affordable, and most attractions are only 10–20 minutes apart.
If you want my personal recommendation, I’d book Hotel Manor on Taras Shevchenko Street. It struck the perfect balance between being in a quieter residential area while still having cafes, restaurants and transport on the doorstep. It was my favourite hotel from my time in Tashkent, and I’d happily stay there again.
If you’re only spending a night or two in the city, however, staying around Amir Timur Square is probably worth paying a little extra for so you can make the most of your limited time.
